The storms of exploitationism and expansionism have wreaked havoc in our planetary communities for millennia, and the winds of climate change, of intensifying hurricanes and extreme weather, are only the symptoms of socio-economic value systems that are out of balance, toppling over, and crushing the weakest and splintering the middle.
We are all called to different areas of life during these times. Some as boots on the ground teaching folks how to make and use dry toilets (call out to the poop queen Lark Frasier!), or bringing in much needed food, water and medicine to stranded and elderly folks (call out to the mutual aid networks in Barnardsville, Marshall, Burnsville, and in Asheville: Firestorm Bookstore and BeLovedAsheville). Others are caring for their community’s children as mud is shoveled out of homes, or tending to their land as they take in friends who have lost their homes. While others are recovering at a family or friends house outside the region until they figure out their next steps.
