For Western Astrologers, the years 2025-2026 are some of the most profound years. I’ll go into more details in another post, but for now, it feels pertinent to address the two major catastrophes that have hit the southeastern U.S. in many years… Hurricane Helene and the Regional Wildfires.
Both occurred during the 14 day window between eclipses: between a Lunar Eclipse on the Pisces-Virgo axis and a Solar Eclipse on the Aries-Libra axis.
Autumn 2024 Eclipse Season Lunar Eclipse: September 18 at 26° Virgo-Pisces | Solar Eclipse: October 2 at 9° Libra-Aries.
Spring 2025 Eclipse Season: Lunar Eclipse: March 14 at 24° Pisces-Virgo | Solar Eclipse: March 29 at 9° Aries-Libra.
Do eclipses cause natural disasters? No. There’s little evidence to point to astrology “causing” shifts in the Earth’s magnetic field. But astrology is not about causation – astrology is about correlation.
I think about it like cells in a body. When a liver cell secretes an enzyme at the same time that a heart cell initiates a metabolic cycle, is the heart cell causing the action of the liver cell, or vice versa? No. There’s usually something larger is happening within the body system as a whole: both cells are responding to the larger body’s systemic rhythms.
My current hypothesis is that the movement of the planets in the sky correlate to the activities of larger body(s) of which our Earth and psyches are living parts – like the algae and fungi to a lichen. But it’s not about belief, its about observation and discernment – and most importantly: story weaving. Take what works, and leave the rest.
That being said, what is going on with these natural disasters happening in the Southeastern U.S. at the same time as eclipses happening at the cusp of Aries-Libra (Fire-Air) and Pisces-Virgo (Water-Earth)? From my perspective, it lines up with this politically frightening moment in time. These crises have happened in a mountain region that was largely peripheral to the slave-holding plantation low-lands, but that doesn’t mean innocence of the dominator culture. The Southern Appalachians are a landscape of settler-colonialism that violated indigenous land treaties and stole land. There’s a lot of underworld ghosts coming alive at this time, and lot of collective wound tending, and a lot of communication with the future ancestors.
We’re being initiated. We’re learning how to navigate chaos, together. We’re aligning with our values of abolition, of equal rights, of learning how to do landback. Seriously, y’all, we gotta be in solidarity with each other. Collective liberation is possible. It’s seed planting time. In 220 years (Pluto cycle), future generations will be harvesting what we collectively plant.
This Spring 2025, major activity begins in Aries. Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, the Spring Equinox. The beginning of the growing season. It’s the sign of initiation, action, courage (which comes from fear). It’s a sign of fire. It’s coordinated by the warrior Mars.
- Spring Equinox happened between the two March eclipses this year (potentially can happen every 10 years)
- Neptune enters Aries on Sunday, March 30, 2025, the first time since April 13, 1861, retrogrades back into Pisces on October 22, 2025, and re-enters Aries its final time on Jan 26, 2026. Neptune will be in Aries until May of 2038.
- Saturn enters Aries on May 24, 2025, first time since April 7, 1996. Saturn retrogrades back into Pisces on Sept 1, 2025, and re-enters Aries its final time on Feb 13, 2026). Saturn will be in Aries until April 12, 2028.
For two outer planets to enter Aries at the same time, within a couple months of each other, signals massive change. Energy. Action. But these two planets are not about fire. Saturn is about foundations, she’s earthy and slow. Neptune is about dreams, visions, delusions, the unseen realms, she’s watery.
So it’s a period to activate and build the foundations that we’ve been dreaming (or deluding) about. If we’re going to be able to do this in a ways that aren’t violent, that don’t create more wounds but rather heal our collective wounds, it’s gonna take those deft skillsharers – the people trained and practicing radical forms of Non-Violent Communication (e.g. I just ordered Miki Kashtan’s The Highest Common Denominator).
But there’s other big changes happening in the Air signs of Aquarius and Gemini:
- Pluto finished entering Aquarius on November 19, 2024 – first time since the American Revolution. Pluto will be in Aquarius until 2043. For more about Pluto check out my astrological mentor Rosie Finn’s recently published book Persephone’s Revolution: Pluto’s Path to the End of Empire).
- Uranus enters Gemini on July 7, 2025 – first time since Aug 7, 1941 (retrogrades back into Taurus on November 7 2025, and finishes entering Gemini on April 25, 2026. Uranus will be in Gemini until August 3, 2032.
Air and Fire. Air and Fire. Air and Fire.
